The OCA’s quest to improve interoperability
True to its mission to foster global development, adoption, and compliance of communication protocols in EV charging infrastructure through collaboration, the Open Charge Alliance (OCA), organizes OCPP PlugFests, which bring together technology experts to perform compliance and interoperability tests. The objective is to further implement, support, and test OCPP 1.6 and 2.0.1. Members can participate with their charging stations and/or their charge station management system (CSMS). Participants are also invited to join in-person Working Group meetings on topics related to the implementation of the protocol.
On a mission to bulletproof our OCPP 2.0.1 implementation
The next OCPP 1.6 and 2.0.1 PlugFest will take place on 9-10 June 2022 in Arnhem, the Netherlands. During the two-day event, AMPECO team members Hristo Velev, Customer Success Manager, and Dimitar Dishev, Senior Software Engineer, will join other OCPP enthusiasts in the new test lab of the OCA. On-site, they will test the OCPP-compliance of AMPECO’s EV charging management platform.
We will have another team supporting our efforts remotely from our head office. Throughout the event, we will test with as many OCPP 2.0.1 compliant manufacturers as possible and see whether any issues need to be addressed. Our goal is to ensure AMPECO’s seamless and ironclad implementation of 2.0.1.
PlugFests enable us to test our solutions in real-world scenarios. The issues shared by industry specialists from the first implementations of OCPP 2.0 in practice and during previous Plugfest events led to the improved OCPP 2.0.1 of today. The latest open charge point protocol incorporates improvements in security, ISO 15118, smart charging, and the extensibility of OCPP.
Why open standards such as OCPP 2.0.1 matter
A multi-stakeholder approach that encourages standardization and interoperability of EV charging infrastructures is crucial to enabling the expected growth in the adoption of EVs. The Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) is an internationally recognized initiative whose aim is to create open communication protocols that connect charging stations with back-end management software solutions.
Apart from guaranteeing interoperability between existing and new EV charging stations, OCPP alleviates the mounting impact on the existing electricity grid as it facilitates dynamic load management.
Furthermore, thanks to OCPP, data can be easily accessed, shared, and collected to improve services and plan for future infrastructure development. Finally, open networks based on OCPP encourage innovation and competition, translating into better services, lower prices, and better services for EV drivers.
AMPECO is a proud member of the Open Charge Alliance. Our white-label, hardware-agnostic EV charging management platform is fully compliant with OCPP 1.5 SOAP, OCPP 1.6 JSON, OCPP 1.6 SOAP, and OCPP 2.0.1 JSON.
