AMPECO is expanding its presence in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) by appointing Joachim Koepf as the region’s Business Development Director. Based in Berlin, Joachim will lead our business development efforts across these critical markets, strengthening our commitment to serving the complex and innovative EV charging landscape.

A Journey Through E-Mobility Innovation
Joachim’s journey in the e-mobility sector spans more than 15 years, with a unique perspective that bridges marketing and sales of electric vehicles and development of digital charging services in various roles. Identifying as a “car guy” and “generalist”, with a background in technical communication and information sciences, his fascination with electric vehicles began in 2008 after watching the documentary “Who Killed the Electric Car”. It sparked his interest in participating in the transformation towards more sustainable mobility, which is taking place at the intersection of technological innovation, government policy and market dynamics.
“What drew me to AMPECO is their forward-thinking approach to charging management software,” Joachim explains. “The platform’s design reflects the requirements and learnings of more than 10 years in roaming and charge point management. As we’re moving beyond basic operational needs towards intelligent, integrated charging ecosystems, the platform not only solves today’s challenges but is designed to future-proof the EV charging business.”
Navigating the Complex DACH EV Charging Landscape
The DACH region presents a unique landscape of challenges and opportunities in EV charging infrastructure. It is characterized by high complexity, slow grid upgrades, and intricate regulatory environments, varying between countries, regions and grid operators. Charge Point Operators (CPOs) face significant hurdles, including grid infrastructure updates with 6-12 month waiting times for transformer substations, non-standardized extensive permission processes, the need for cost-efficient network scaling in a volatile market environment, and integration of renewable energy alongside smart charging solutions to secure grid stability.
Strategic Vision and Market Transformation
The EV charging industry is undergoing a profound transformation, moving decisively from hardware-centric to software-driven solutions. API-driven platforms are the way to go and increasingly sought after by operators and service providers. Companies like vehicle manufacturers or large retailers are merging vertical charging solutions with other tailored services for their customers, which requires deep integration with their ecosystems.
Based on his extensive industry experience, Joachim sees AMPECO’s platform as a critical enabler for this market evolution. His strategic priorities include creating market visibility, developing forward-looking solutions with CPOs and supporting the transition from experimental technologies to commercial-scale operations.
“Our focus is not just on fixing legacy problems, but on creating a vision with our customers for the future of their EV charging solutions, and jointly bringing it to life,” he notes. “The platform is designed to serve flexibility and scalability requirements, and allows us to dynamically provide solutions that support grid stability, optimize charging resources, or integrate emerging technologies like vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capabilities.”
Technological Trends and Future Outlook
Looking ahead, Joachim anticipates several key developments in the EV charging software landscape. The industry is experiencing significant consolidation, ranging from the AC charger market to charge point management software to operations, with smaller providers struggling to maintain their market position. Open platforms will not only reduce OPEX per charge point but will also be the key drivers of innovation, moving towards a future where digital charging services will unfold the full potential of the installed hardware base.
He predicts comprehensive API-driven platforms will allow deeper service integration through in-house and marketplace developments, and AI-driven optimization will eventually increase network utilization, reliability, and customer satisfaction. Additionally, such platforms are key for large-scale renewable energy integration and the utilization of flexibility potentials.
“We’re moving towards a future where charging infrastructure is not just about more hardware in more locations, but about creating intelligent, user-assisting services that increase network utilization and the use of renewable energies, while reducing the need for network redundancy when catering for peak demands – which eventually leads to more sustainable EV charging,” Joachim emphasizes.
Driving AMPECO’s Regional Expansion
Joachim’s appointment reinforces AMPECO’s commitment to the DACH market and our mission to empower EV charging providers with innovative, future-oriented technology tailored to regional needs.
