Currently, all NEVI (National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure) funding has been frozen by the new administration until further notice. Contracts for approved projects that have already been signed will still receive funding, but for projects that were approved but not yet signed, it is highly likely that they will not receive funding. This has created significant uncertainty for stakeholders in the electric vehicle infrastructure sector, as many had been anticipating the funds to move forward with their projects. The future of these approvals remains unclear, depending on the administration’s review and potential changes to its priorities.

Georgia Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program (GEVI) Deployment

At the forefront of Georgia’s efforts to revolutionize its electric mobility landscape is the Georgia National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Deployment Program, born out of the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. With a substantial allocation of nearly $5 billion nationally over a five-year span, commencing in the fall of 2022, Georgia’s dedicated share amounts to approximately $135 million. This sizeable investment is earmarked to push forward the development of the state’s portion of this transformative national network.

Having secured the green light from the Federal Highway Administration on September 14, 2022, the Georgia NEVI Deployment Plan stands as a testament to the state’s commitment to fostering sustainable transportation options. As part of this comprehensive strategy, the Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) is meticulously crafting a blueprint to actualize the approved NEVI plan.

In the first round of the GA NEVI Deployment Program Round 1, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is actively seeking experienced developers to undertake electric vehicle charging infrastructure projects. This program aims to design, install, finance, operate, and maintain EV charging infrastructure that aligns with the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program. With a due date for responses set for November 17th, 2023, this initiative underscores the state’s dedication to bolstering the EV charging network.

Cobb EMC’s EV Grant Program

The Cobb EMC’s EV Grant Program provides funding opportunities to a diverse range of entities, including businesses, property owners, multifamily unit owners, and government agencies interested in installing EV charging stations are their place of business. Grant recipients can receive anywhere from $500 to $5,000, which can significantly offset the costs associated with purchasing and installing EV supply equipment (EVSE). Importantly, the grants are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis until the funds are exhausted.

Georgia Power’s Electric Transportation Programs

Georgia Power, a prominent player in the state’s energy landscape, has stepped up to support the electrification of transportation through a series of impactful programs.

Make Ready Electric Transportation Program

Businesses and organizations can now apply for funding through the Make Ready Electric Transportation Program. This initiative aims to provide financial assistance for the installation of the infrastructure required to support electric transportation charging systems at various facilities. By facilitating the creation of charging infrastructure, Georgia Power is removing a significant barrier to EV adoption.

Level Up with Rebates

Georgia Power is offering a generous EV charger rebate for commercial customers who choose to purchase or lease and install Level 2 EV chargers. This rebate can be as high as $500 per charger, with a maximum rebate of $2,500 for installing up to five chargers. This not only makes the transition to electric mobility more economically viable for businesses but also contributes to the overall growth of the EV charging network in the state.

Commercial, Workplace, and Residential incentives

Whether you’re a business owner looking to attract environmentally conscious customers, a property owner seeking to enhance the value of your establishment, or a government agency aiming to support sustainable transportation, there are programs designed to meet your specific needs. From commercial enterprises to residential communities and workplaces, Georgia’s comprehensive approach to EV adoption ensures that everyone can participate in the transition to cleaner transportation.
